Welcome to Blackartz

My name is Julian Black and I'm an experienced freelance print and accessible web designer living in Newent, rural Gloucestershire. I have a special interest in creating designs which are both easily accessible and visually stimulating.

My speciality is working with clients to produce a Standards Compliant design which will convey the necessary information in the clearest possible way. Where appropriate, I like to compliment that information with eye-catching original imagery.

Fear not!

This Blackartz stuff isn't the slightest bit sinister...

You won’t find eye of toad or toe of bat, unless that is actually what you’re looking for - in which case go straight to my other website www.ruralramblings.co.uk an image library of my British natural history photographs. What you will find here at Blackartz is a mix of the latest web technologies blended with some common sense using an artistic eye.

Take a few minutes to check out my site, learn a bit more about the skills I have to offer and have a look at some of my recent projects.

Web Accessibility

I’m a proud member of the Guild of Accessible Web Designers (GAWDS) which means that my designs will be a minimum of Web Accessibility Initiative ‘AA’ rated. Ideally I'll build your site to the same level of conformance as my own which is 'AAA', ensuring that your site meets the criteria outlined within the UKs Disability Discrimination Act 1995.

This approach also aids people accessing the site with unusual software or hardware configurations. I design for maximum compatibility whether your visitors use a PC, a Mac, a PDA, a mobile phone or any number of emerging browser technologies. Additionally this methodology is very good at generating logical layouts for the effective dissemination of information.

A quick overview

Whether you're looking for someone to:

  • design, build and host a fully accessible website including CMS and eCommerce applications.
  • re-design your existing site to W3C standards.
  • advise you about choosing and registering domain names.
  • create a logo.
  • design letterheads, compliment slips and business cards.
  • design your publicity materials including flyers and posters.
  • design a brochure.
  • design eFlyers for distribution via email.

There are plenty of examples of all these things on my web design and print design pages, so please have a browse.

Competitive price

Because I'm a freelance designer, I don't have the overheads normally associated with large agencies, thus I hope you'll find my prices very reasonable.
